Hot Dog Grilled Cheese

Hot Dog Grilled Cheese

This is an interesting take on combining two childhood favorites. The hot dog and the grilled cheese. They pack a lot of flavor into a bite and should delight your children with exactly what they desire. Not to mention having some simple comfort food that is quick for lunch will make your mid day rest that much more comfortable!

  • Griddle
  • Dutch Oven Lid
  • Spatula
  • Butter Knife

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg Hot Dogs
  • 1 pkg Hot Dog Buns
  • Mayonnaise
  • 8 oz Shredded Cheddar Cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat your griddle over the camp stove or the campfire. You will also need to pre-heat the lid of your Dutch oven at this time.
  • While things are getting warm slice the hot dogs in half.
    1 pkg Hot Dogs
  • Once hot dogs are sliced, split the hot dog buns in half long ways. Place mayonnaise on what was the inside face of the buns.
1 pkg Hot Dog Buns, Mayonnaise
  • When everything is preheated, place half of the hot dog bun halves mayo side down on the griddle. Arrange hot dog halves on top of the buns. Spread cheddar cheese over the hot dogs evenly. Top with the remaining hot dog buns mayo side up.
    8 oz Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • Place pre-heated Dutch oven lid right on top of the hot dog buns and press down.
  • Allow to cook for approximately 8-10 minutes without lifting the lid.
  • Remove Dutch oven lid and move to a plate to cool a bit before eating.

Notes

Camp Hero Notes
  1. Try using a hoagie roll for something a little more substantial.
  2. The type of hot dog does not matter but you will want something that is easily cut and can lay flat. I prefer something that is bun length as well.
